Abbey Bachmann
University of Houston

Abbey Bachmann has been teaching secondary English for 11 years and is currently teaching English I at Cypress Woods High School in Cypress, TX. Her experiences include both middle school and high school Language Arts and English. Abbey earned her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University. She received her master’s as a Reading Specialist from the University of St. Thomas in 2015 and is currently a doctoral student at the University of Houston as part of the Curriculum & Instruction program with a focus in literacy. Her research interests include reading motivation and student choice in text, critical literacy, and the effect of standardized testing on teaching practices.

Ahmet Aksoy
Texas Tech University

Ahmet is pursuing his Ph.D. in Media & Communication at Texas Tech University. Before, he worked four years in higher education administration developing and promoting programs to assist the academic and professional success of students. He received his master's degree in media and public relations from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom and his bachelor's in communications at East Carolina University in North Carolina. Ahmet has a love for cultures and discovering the media's role in mediating the delivery of information across cultures. Furthermore, how media may be applied to enhance the learning process.
For the fifth time, the TexLER Committee will be awarding two travel grants to graduate student presenters to attend the TexLER Conference, October 9-10, 2020 at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The travel grants will be presented during the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
